Alexis Sanchez’s Man United exit in doubt following Martial thigh injury – Guardian

As per a report from the Guardian, Alexis Sanchez’s potential move to Inter Milan could hinge on whether or not the fitness problem picked up by Anthony Martial versus Crystal Palace is serious.

Man United 1-2 Crystal Palace

The Red Devils welcomed Roy Hodgson’s men to Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon, for their 3rd Premier League clash of the campaign.

United headed into proceedings hoping for an immediate bounce-back performance, having followed their opening day drubbing of Chelsea with a lacklustre 1-1 draw with Wolves last time out.

However, things only went from bad to worse for the Manchester giants versus Palace.

A dismal display on the part of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men looked as though it was set to result in the shares being spoiled, after Daniel James cancelled out Jordan Ayew’s first-half strike.

Incredibly, however, Palace went on to bag a late winner against the run of play, as Patrick van Aanholt slammed home at David De Gea’s near post.

Sanchez to stay put?

An altogether miserable afternoon’s work for United, meanwhile, was compounded by a pair of blows on the injury front.

First off, Luke Shaw was forced off with what appeared to be a hamstring problem on the stroke of half-time.

And this was followed by Anthony Martial also pulling up with an issue, shortly before the full-time whistle.

Speaking in a press conference following his side’s defeat, United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer played down the pair’s respective fitness concerns:

‘We’ll have to wait and see. Hopefully they won’t be too bad and maybe we can have them training during the week.’

However, if Martial’s injury turns out to be more serious than expected, this could have major implications for another of the Red Devils’ attackers.

The player in question is Alexis Sanchez.

Chilean international Sanchez has of course been hotly-tipped for a move to Serie A giants Inter Milan of late.

As per the aforementioned report from the Guardian, though, if Martial is ruled out for any considerable length of time, Sanchez may be forced to stay put.

Updates on the situation, meanwhile, are expected over the coming days.
