Spanish giants Barcelona have this afternoon confirmed that Luis Suarez is set to undergo surgery on a meniscus problem in his right knee.
Ernesto Valverde’s men are currently in the midst of a concerning run of form.
The Blaugrana have managed just 1 win from their last 5 outings across all competitions.
This includes a 2-2 La Liga draw with bottom of the table Espanyol last weekend, and, most recently, a defeat at the hands of Atletico Madrid on Thursday night.
After taking a 2-1 lead in their Spanish Super Cup semi-final meeting with Los Rojiblancos, Barca eventually collapsed, with Atleti now set to take on city rivals Real Madrid in the competition’s showpiece tomorrow evening.

One player to have produced at an impressive rate despite Barcelona’s struggles of late, though, is Luis Suarez.
Uruguayan hitman Suarez has directly contributed to 7 goals in his last 3 appearances in the Blaugrana’s colours.
His previous 10 outings at club level, meanwhile, have seen the veteran rack up 7 goals and a hefty 10 assists.
However, as outlined above, the Spanish champions are set to be unable to call on the talents of their no.9 for the foreseeable future.
An announcement across Barca’s official website and social media channels a short time ago confirmed that Suarez will go under the knife next weekend, to resolve an issue in the attacker’s right knee:
‘First-team player Luis Suárez will be intervened next Sunday by Dr. Ramon Cugat, with an injury to the outer meniscus of his right knee. Once the surgery is over, the club will make a new medical statement.’

The reliable Alfredo Martinez has since speculated that the operation is likely to keep Suarez sidelined for somewhere between 4 and 6 weeks:
OFICIAL Luis Suárez se operará mañana del menisco externo de la rodilla derecha. Operará el doctor Cugat. No marca tiempo de baja pero debe estar entre 4-6 semanas
