Barcelona boost: Messi & Dembele updates ahead of Dortmund

Spanish champions Barcelona have this evening provided fitness updates on attacking duo Lionel Messi and Ousmane Dembele.

Dortmund vs Barcelona

Ernesto Valverde’s men are set to get their Champions League campaign underway on Tuesday night, with a trip to Germany.

The Blaugrana will visit the home of Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund, for what is no doubt set to be a goal-filled affair.

Dortmund are set to head into the high-profile clash on the back of a 4-0 thumping of Bayer Leverkusen yesterday afternoon.

Paco Alcacer, Marco Reus (2) and Raphael Guerreiro bagged the goals for Lucien Favre’s men.

Barcelona, meanwhile, also secured an impressive win yesterday.

After enduring a difficult start to the defence of their La Liga title, the Catalan powerhouse got things firmly back on track, courtesy of a 5-2 victory over Valencia.

Ansu Fati, Frenkie de Jong, Gerard Pique and Luis Suarez (2) found the target for the hosts at the Camp Nou.

Messi returns to the fray

Barca’s victory last night also came with Ernesto Valverde having been unable to call on a pair of key performers.

The duo in question were Lionel Messi and Ousmane Dembele, both of whom have spent time on the sidelines of late with respective injury problems.

Blaugrana talisman Messi has actually yet to feature for his side to this point in the campaign.

However, in a timely boost for all associated with Barca, it has this evening been confirmed that both the Argentine and Ousmane Dembele today returned to training with the rest of the club’s first-team squad.

Messi appears more likely to feature at Dortmund, though, with Dembele having only taken part in some of today’s session:

‘Leo Messi was back with the group, whilst Ousmane Dembélé trained with them for part of the session.’
