Bayern boss on Arsenal-linked Boateng leaving the club: ‘I can’t imagine that at the moment’

Chambers injured

Arsenal were dealt a rather big defensive blow recently.

The Gunners played host to Chelsea on the 29th of December, in what was their final game of the year.

23 minutes into said clash, which Arsenal lost 2-1, Calum Chambers was forced off the pitch.

The North London outfit then provided a rather negative update on Chambers, stating he is expected to be out for 6-9 months.

Arsenal eyeing a centre-back?

With Chambers set to be out for a prolonged period of time and Arsenal’s defence not the best anyway, could Arsenal now be eyeing some reinforcements in the centre of their defence?

Mikel Arteta admitted the defender’s injury is going to change their plans at the back. When asked what Arsenal fans can expect from this month’s transfer window, Arteta stated:

“That we will try to be in the market to see options that can strengthen the team, that’s for sure and that’s our obligation. We are going to be working on that.

“My obligation is to give my opinion on the things we can improve. We have some bad injuries with Calum a few days ago, which is obviously going to change our plans at the back. But the reality at the moment is that we are not going to be able to do much.” As quoted by the Telegraph.

The Telegraph would claim that RB Leipzig’s Dayot Upamecano, Bournemouth’s Nathan Ake and Juventus’ Daniele Rugani are all thought to be in Arsenal’s thoughts.

Boateng to Arsenal?

Another central defender linked with Arsenal recently has been Bayern Munich’s Jerome Boateng with the Evening Standard claiming the Gunners are exploring the possibility of signing the German.

Boateng is now 31 years of age and arguably past his best. But he would still likely be a decent addition for Arsenal.

Bayern boss Hans-Dieter Flick has recently spoken out about Boateng leaving the German powerhouse.

And it doesn’t sound too positive from an Arsenal perspective with Flick stating he can’t imagine Boateng leaving at the moment:

“Jerome is a Bayern player.

“He has trained well during the winter break.

“I can’t wait to see what the next few weeks will be like. I’m not worrying about if he’ll leave the club or not. I can’t imagine that at the moment.” As quoted by the Mirror.
