Elneny’s time at Arsenal
Mohamed Elneny made the switch to Arsenal from FC Basel in January of 2016.
Arsenal are believed to have paid around £11.25m for the midfielder.
While Elneny has never really been a standout star for Arsenal, he has still managed 89 appearances across all competitions, scoring two and assisting eight in the process.
However, since Unai Emery took the reins at Arsenal, the Egyptian has found his first-team chances pretty limited.
The now 27-year-old made just 17 appearances for Arsenal throughout 2018/19. Only eight of those came in the Premier League.
Elneny to leave Arsenal?
Then, earlier in August, Emery spoke about both Elneny and Shkodran Mustafi.
While Emery didn’t outright say that the pair need to leave this summer, he did say he thinks it is best for them to be protagonists in another side:
“I spoke with them a lot of times last year in this position and I think it is positive for them to leave and to sign for another team where they can be protagonists, they can be happy and can continue their careers as players.
“They are very big players. But here for one circumstance or another circumstance they are going to have less chances to show their capacity or to be happy with us taking minutes of playing matches.
“They know the situation, I am wishing the best for them and I think now the best for them is to be protagonists in another team, to sign and to get another challenge for them and continue with another team.” As quoted by Sky Sports.
Now, on Wednesday, Dean Jones has provided an update on the clubs interested in Elneny.
While Jones stated that Galatasaray are not in for Elneny, Turkish clubs Besiktas and Fenerbache are still interested in him.
