Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers has provided an update on the fitness of Ben Chilwell, after the defender missed the Foxes’ victory over Watford.
Leicester march on
Rodgers’ men welcomed the Hornets to the King Power Stadium last night, for their latest Premier League outing.
The two sides headed into proceedings on markedly differing runs of form, and at opposite ends of the table.
Leicester were aware that a victory would take them back into 2nd in the English top-flight, 3 points clear of champions Manchester City.
Watford, on the other hand, sat dead bottom of the Premier League, with an abysmal 8-point haul.
As such, when all was said and done at the King Power, it came as little surprise to see the hosts emerge victorious.
Jamie Vardy continued his scintillating stretch of form with Leicester’s opener 10 minutes after the interval, before James Maddison eased any lingering concerns around the stadium with the Foxes’ 2nd deep into injury-time.
‘Hopefully he’ll be okay’
On an otherwise positive evening for all associated with Leicester, however, there was one source of concern.
This was the absence of Ben Chilwell from the club’s starting XI, breaking a streak of 6 straight outings without a solitary line-up change on the part of Brendan Rodgers.
As such, speaking in a post-match interview, the Leicester boss was inevitably drawn on his first-choice left-back’s fitness, with Rodgers having gone on to confirm that Chilwell’s issue was only a ‘slight’ one.
As such, the stopper is in contention to make a return to starting duties versus Aston Villa this weekend:
‘Hopefully he’ll be okay for the weekend. He had a slight problem at the top of his leg, his hip area.’
‘We’ll see how he goes over the next couple of days, but hopefully he’ll be okay.’
