Brendan Rodgers rules Jamie Vardy out of Leicester’s clash with Wigan

Leicester vs Wigan

Leicester will get their 2019/20 FA Cup campaign up and running on Saturday.

The Foxes will play host to Championship outfit Wigan in the 3rd round as they look to continue their fine start to the season.

Leicester are currently flying high in the Premier League, sitting 2nd in the table with a 14-point gap open between themselves and 5th place Manchester United.

Brendan Rodgers’ side are also excelling in this campaign’s League Cup.

Leicester are into to the semi-final stages of the LC against relegation-battling, Aston Villa.

So, given their recent form, you would think a win over Wigan on Saturday is very likely for Leicester.

Leicester have never won the FA Cup but they have made it to the final on four occasions.

Vardy to miss Wigan clash

But while Leicester will likely be keen to do well in the FA Cup, they will have to navigate the 3rd round without one of their key stars.

Jamie Vardy has been in scintillating form this season and is currently the Premier League’s top scorer with an impressive 17 goals to his name.

However, Vardy was absent for Leicester’s last clash vs Newcastle due to a calf problem.

Brendan Rodgers would provide a fresh update on Vardy on Friday, stating that the forward is coming along well. Although, Rodgers went on to concede Vardy won’t be available vs Wigan:

“He’s coming along very well. He’s done some good work with the medical team and he’ll be back out on the [training] pitch tomorrow.

“He’s not available for the game but he’ll be training with us Sunday. Everyone [else] has been brilliant; fit, recovering and all available.” As quoted by Leicester’s official website.
