Chelsea & Man City dominate Alan Shearer’s Premier League Team of the Decade

Chelsea & Man City dominate the 2010s

2020 is just around the corner, which means the 2010s are all but over.

Over the past decade of Premier League football, we have seen two clubs, in particular, dominate the English top-flight.

Manchester United would be fairly dominant at the beginning of the decade, clinching the league title in the 2010/11 and 2012/13 seasons.

However, since Sir Alex Ferguson left the United dugout, their dominance over English football has been passed on to Chelsea and Manchester City.

Chelsea would kick off the 2010s by clinching the league title in the 2009/10 campaign.

The Blues then went on to earn another two league titles over the course of the decade.

But it would be Manchester City who have arguably been the most dominant PL club over the past 10 years.

City have won four Premier League titles, including the last two and they have also broken the record for the most points earned in a single PL season.

The Citizens earned 100 points in the 2017/18 campaign and 98 last term, the two highest points totals amassed in a PL season.

Shearer’s Team of the Decade

And with the decade almost over, Alan Shearer has now named his Premier League Team of the Decade.

Rather unsurprisingly, the squad is largely made up of players who have or are honing their craft for Man City and Chelsea.

Former Chelsea and Arsenal shot-stopper Petr Cech is between the sticks for Shearer.

There is then a three-man defence made up of former Chelsea and Man City stars John Terry, Vincent Kompany and  Branislav Ivanovic.

City then dominate the midfield with N’Golo Kante the only player not from the Sky Blues. Kante would, of course, lift the league title wit both Leicester and Chelsea this decade.

And then former Manchester United standout Wayne Rooney is included in the attack as the only player not to have plied his trade for City or Chelsea.
