Everton lining up new contract for ‘£70million-rated’ Lucas Digne – Mail

Everton tying down their big players

Everton are reportedly lining up a new contract for defender Lucas Digne, who the club supposedly rate at a whopping £70million.

Digne signed for the Toffees in the summer of 2018 from Barcelona, for a reported fee of £18million.

Expected to replicate the form Leighton Baines has over the past decade, Digne had some big boots to fill as the Englishman’s career winds down.

Impressively, Digne has filled those boots and then some.

Digne was voted as Everton’s joint player of the season in the last campaign, sharing the award with Idrissa Gueye.

Despite Everton’s struggles this season, Digne has scored one goal and has four assists to his name across all competitions.

Now, the Toffees are looking to secure his future.

Is Lucas Digne really worth £70million?

According to the Mail, Everton are lining up a new deal for Lucas Digne.

This comes after Brazilian forward Richarlison was rewarded with a new deal this week.

After his deal, the Mail claim Everton ‘now want to do the same with left-back Digne.’

Possibly the most interesting piece of information from the Mail is how much Everton value Digne at.

It’s claimed that ‘with the rising cost of full-backs Everton believe Digne would now be worth well in excess of £70m in the current market’

However, Everton have no plans to sell the Frenchman and ‘their plan is to try and extend the 26-year-old’s contract.’
