Ambitious move from the Toffees
Everton have reportedly made an approach for former Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino, following Marco Silva’s sacking on Thursday.
Silva’s position had become untenable after the loss to Liverpool on Wednesday, with the Toffees losing 5-2 at Anfield.
That left Everton having lost nine of their opening season 15 matches.
As a result, the Blues have now fallen into the relegation zone and are a real contender for the drop.
With that in mind, Silva was given the sack on Thursday and work to replace him looks to be underway.
Though, one interesting name has come to the forefront of reports on Friday.
Would Pochettino join Everton?
According to the Times, Everton have approached Mauricio Pochettino over the vacant managerial job.
The Argentinian boss was sacked by Spurs a few weeks back, despite getting them to the Champions League final.
Following a poor start to the season, Daniel Levy took the difficult decision to sack Pochettino.
He was quickly replaced by Jose Mourinho, who has won three out of his first four games.
Now, Everton are looking to snap Pochettino up.
According to Paul Joyce, ‘an approach has also been made by Everton to former Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino.’
While there isn’t much more information on Pochettino, there is on Everton’s other targets.
Carlo Ancelotti is supposedly on the short-list for Everton’s new manager.
Other coaches discussed are Shanghai SIPG’s Vitor Pereira, former boss David Moyes, ex-Valencia manager Marcelino and Ajax’s Eric ten Hag.
The big question is whether Everton could persuade managers such as Pochettino or Ancelotti to come.
If they could, the Toffees may get themselves out of their current predicament.
