Reports across the European media this evening suggest that Aston Villa star Wesley has suffered a season-ending injury.

Villa back on track

Dean Smith’s men travelled to fellow relegation-battlers Burnley yesterday afternoon, for a Premier League clash.

The visitors headed into proceedings in desperate need of a bounce-back result.

This came after Villa were comprehensively downed by 3 goals to nil by 10-man Watford last weekend.

When all was said and done at Turf Moor, though, the Villans got back to winning ways, with a crucial 2-1 victory.

First-half goals from Wesley and Jack Grealish eventually proved the difference between the sides, as Villa leapfrogged free-falling Bournemouth out of the relegation zone.

Wesley’s season over?

Villa’s win, however, was soured somewhat by a concerning blow on the personnel front.

The player to have picked up the problem was Wesley.

Amid a starring performance at Turf Moor, Brazilian hitman Wesley went to ground 20 minutes from time, in what appeared to be some degree of pain.

This eventually saw the 23-year-old stretchered off by the visitors’ medical team, with fears having quickly spread as to his well-being.

And, as per the aforementioned update this evening, the news looks far from positive.

The reliable Kristof Terreur of Belgian outlet HLN has reported that Wesley has damaged cruciate ligaments in his knee, and will therefore be forced to sit out the remainder of the season:

After initially reporting injured posterior cruciate ligaments, it has since been suggested that it is in fact Wesley’s ACL which has been damaged:
