Giroud out in the cold
Since Frank Lampard took the reigns at Chelsea Olivier Giroud has found himself a somewhat fringe member of the squad.
The Frenchman has featured just three times in the Premier League this season, failing to complete 90 minutes in any of those ties.
Giroud has also not appeared in the PL for the Blues since August 24th.
The now 33-year-old is even struggling for game time in the cup competitions.
Giroud has played just 17 minutes of Champions League football this campaign and was omitted from the matchday squad when Chelsea beat Grimsby in the League Cup.
Lampard wants Giroud at Chelsea
The main reason Giroud is struggling for game time looks to be the form of Tammy Abraham
The Chelsea youth product has been in fine form under the guidance of Lampard, scoring nine in 12 appearances this season.
But with his game time dwindling, Giroud recently stated he doesn’t accept his current role at Stamford Bridge.
Lampard has since spoken about Giroud, stating he should not be happy and that he wants the striker at Chelsea.
But Lampard would also hint at talks with Giroud in January:
“No, [we want him to stay] because at the minute, he is a big part of the squad. As I say, Tammy has been producing but I would sit down with him (Giroud) because I respect him. But no, I want him here.
“I have had a good chat with Oli before he went away. I always respect all the players, particularly of his age. I was in that sort of low-30s age. I love his professionalism. He was bang on when he spoke to me. He was bang on with his quotes when he was away with France.
“He shouldn’t be happy and accept not playing. That’s what good players do. As I said to Oli, he will get his games and be a big influence for us. At the moment, because of how Tammy is playing at the moment, there haven’t been as many minutes.
“So, that will be something I will sit down happily with Oli in January but January is quite a long way away.” As quoted by Goal.
