Chelsea vs Aston Villa
Chelsea will play host to Aston Villa on Wednesday as they look to get back to winning ways.
The Blues are currently three games without a win across all competitions.
Granted two of those ties did come against very tough opposition in the form of Manchester City and Valencia.
But Chelsea’s last clash was against West Ham this past weekend.
The Hammers were without a win in seven league ties before facing Chelsea yet they still managed to beat Frank Lampard’s men 1-0.
As a result, Chelsea are now just six points clear of 5th place Tottenham and will no doubt be keen to bounce back vs Villa.
Dean Smith’s side will be no pushover though. In their last two outings, Villa have beaten Newcastle and drew away to Manchester United.
Part of the reason Chelsea lost to West Ham may have something to do with the absence of Tammy Abraham.
The England international is Chelsea’s top scorer this term but he was out injured on Saturday.
Olivier Giroud took his place up top but the Frenchman delivered a rather lackluster display. And despite Chelsea mustering up 19 shots vs West Ham, they failed to score.
Giroud was subbed off around 70 minutes in vs West Ham with Christian Pulisic taking his place as the central striker.
Lampard has since discussed if that could be an option vs Villa:
“We’ll see. He does have an ability to run behind the line, and to be sharp in central areas which will naturally get him more goals.
“I am not going to say right now if that is the solution, but we will see as we go forward.” As quoted by Chelsea’s official website.
As well as discussing Pulisic playing through the middle, Lampard gave a fresh update on Abraham:
“We will find out more today and tomorrow.
“He needs to get outside and move a little bit outside over the next two days.” As quoted by Chelsea’s official website.
