Guardiola has no confidence Premier League will make changes to festive schedule

Man City’s busy schedule

For fans of Premier League football, the festive period is generally an exciting time.

It feels like there is football on most days and who doesn’t love that.

However, for players and managers in the English top-flight, the schedule can prove rather hectic.

Take Manchester City for example. The Citizens took on Wolves on Friday the 27th of December and less than 48 hours later City will take on Sheffield United on the 29th of December.

The Sky Blues are then afforded just two days of rest before they have to play Everton on the 1st of January.

Man City are then back in action just a few days later as they take on Port Vale in the FA Cup 3rd round on January 4th.

Guardiola on festive schedule

The fixture pile-up around the festive period has been bemoaned by several Premier League managers already this season including Liverpool’s Jurgen Klopp and Newcastle’s Steve Bruce

Another top Premier League boss who appears less than happy with the hectic schedule around the holidays is Manchester City’s, Pep Guardiola.

As per the Telegraph, Guardiola has already written a letter of complaint to the PL over the fact City have to play twice in less than 48 hours.

However, it doesn’t sound as though the Spaniard has any faith in the fixture pile-up changing.

When asked if he felt the league should consider making changes to the schedule, Guardiola had this to say:

“I don’t have any confidence about that. They don’t care.

“Am I risking players? Yeah, but we have to play. I honestly don’t know how they are going to recover and how they feel, we’ll see.

“In my first season it was the same, we played at Anfield and two days later with Burnley at home. My words are not going to change, Jose [Mourinho] and Jurgen [Klopp] have said the same. Every season is the same, TV decides and we have to adapt.

“I have to evaluate the players and how they feel. We have to put fresh legs on because one of the teams is so physical.” As quoted by the Telegraph.
