David Silva set to leave Man City
David Silva confirmed over the summer that he will leave Manchester City at the end of the 2019/20 campaign.
When he departs the club at the end of the current season, Silva will have spent around a decade with the Sky Blues.
In that time, City have cemented themselves as one of the top forces in the English top-flight.
And along with the likes of Vincent Kompany and Sergio Aguero, Silva has played a pivotal role in City’s rise in the footballing world.
The now 34-year-old has racked up over 400 appearances for the Citizens across all competitions. In those ties, Silva has scored 74 and assisted 136.
The little magician has also won a plethora of trophies with Man City with his latest haul of silverware coming when City became the first-ever male English side to win the domestic treble.
And while Silva is perhaps in the twilight years of his career, he is still proving to be a valuable asset for the Manchester powerhouse this season.
Foden to fill Silva’s boots?
So, with Silva set to depart in the summer, perhaps the Man City faithful may have been expecting their club to sign a replacement for him.
However, Pep Guardiola has recently stated that when Silva leaves, City will not buy any players in his position because they have Phil Foden:
“Phil is an incredible player but he still has things to improve.
“Sometimes it takes time to understand exactly what he has to do, sometimes you have to be patient. But David is going to leave this season and we are not going to buy any player in his position because we have Phil.
“We trust Phil. If we didn’t believe in him we might go to the market to replace David, but we have Phil.” As quoted by Sky Sports News.
The Stockport-born Foden is a product of Man City’s youth system and is slowly garnering more first-team minutes.
The 19-year-old has made 21 appearances for Man City’s senior side this season, scoring three and assisting five. A pretty decent record considering a good chunk of those appearances came from the bench.
