Injured Luke Shaw may miss 8 matches & Anthony Martial injury update before Southampton

Luke Shaw may be out for a month

Man United fans are waking up to injury news on Tuesday.

Last weekend Crystal Palace won 2-1 at Old Trafford.

Aside from losing the match, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer finished the match with some fresh injury problems.

Luke Shaw, who had played 90 minutes against Chelsea and Wolves, was subbed out the Palace game with an injury.

According to the Times today, Shaw may now be sidelined for month – possibly longer.

Injured Luke Shaw may miss 8 matches

Times reporter Paul Hirst has confirmed Shaw has a suffered a right hamstring injury.

On the left-back’s comeback timetable, the broadsheet report the following:

Shaw himself expects to be missing for the next month and the timeframe could stretch even farther if the final tests are as bad as feared.

Shaw is expected to miss United’s next three games against Southampton, Leicester City and West Ham United, as well as England’s next two fixtures against Bulgaria and Kosovo on September 7 and 10.

Under the worst case scenario, United could also be without Shaw for matches against Arsenal, Newcastle United and Liverpool.

How will Man United replace Shaw?

Ashley Young appears to be the likeliest solution for Solskjaer.

Young filled in against Crystal Palace in the full-back slot.

However, the impact of Shaw’s setback could stretch further, with Marcos Rojo more likely to remain at Old Trafford now.

Rojo had been tipped for a possible Man United exit this summer. The Times note that AC Milan, Napoli, Monaco and Fenerbahce had all be considering moves for Rojo.

Anthony Martial injury update before Southampton

Anthony Martial also sustained a knock in the defeat to Crystal Palace.

The Times today provide the following update on the forward:

Anthony Martial, the France forward, is to have further tests this week on a thigh injury he sustained on Saturday.

United are hopeful that his injury is not serious.

Next up for Man United is an away trip to Southampton on Saturday in the Premier League.

For the moment, Martial’s involvement against Southampton remains in doubt.

Fiorentina want to sign Fred

Switching focus, the Times also reveal that Fiorentina want to sign Fred.

Fred has failed to cement his place in the Man United midfield since he joined last summer.

Yet, the broadsheet confirm that Fred is going nowhere:

Fred, meanwhile, will not be leaving United over the course of the next week.

The Brazilian midfielder had attracted interest from Fiorentina, but United are unwilling to sell him.
