As per a report from Swedish outlet Fotbollskanalen, Manchester United defender Victor Lindelof has rejected a call-up to the Swedish national squad.

Wolves 2-1 Man United

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Red Devils travelled to Molineux last night, for an FA Cup quarter-final clash.

The Manchester giants headed into proceedings hoping for an immediate bounce-back performance, having disappointed en route to a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Premier League top-4 rivals Arsenal last time out.

However, when all was said and done last night, it was Wolves who emerged victorious at Molineux, to secure their spot in the FA Cup semi-final draw.

Raul Jimenez and Diogo Jota did the damage for the hosts, with a 95th-minute Marcus Rashford strike having proved scant consolation for visitors United:

Lindelof rejects call

With the international break now beckoning, Solskjaer’s men will have two weeks to mull over their latest defeat, before returning to club duties on the 30th of March, versus Watford.

And one of the Red Devils’ key performers who looks set to be very-well rested by the time the Red Devils’ next fixture rolls round at the end of the month is Victor Lindelof.

24-year-old stopper Lindelof, who played the full 90 minutes of United’s defeat last night, has established himself as an absolutely integral member of the Old Trafford outfit’s squad this season, with the former Benfica man now widely-regarded as his side’s most reliable defensive presence.

As such, Lindelof was unsurprisingly handed a call-up to Janne Andersson’s latest Sweden’s squad for the country’s upcoming European Championship qualifiers versus Romania and Norway.

But, as per the aforementioned report from Fotbollskanalen, the Man United star has opted to turn down his selection.

‘Personal reasons’ are cited as Lindelof’s reasoning.

The Swede’s wife is known to be pregnant, one possible reason for his decision.

However, bizarrely, it is also suggested that the omission of close friend John Guidetti from Janne Andersson’s squad could have played a role in Lindelof rejecting his call-up:
