Pochettino sacked

Mauricio Pochettino spent close to five and a half years with Tottenham.

During his spell in north London Pochettino turned Spurs into a Premier League top-four side.

Spurs would consistently qualify for the Champions League and the Argentine even guided them to their first-ever CL final back in May of 2019.

Pochettino would achieve all of this on a shoestring budget.

However, the 2019/20 campaign will be one to forget for Mauricio Pochettino.

After 12 games of the Premier League season Tottenham found themselves down in 14th place.

Spurs were also knocked out of the League Cup by lower-league opposition Colchester and they received a 7-2 drubbing at the hands of Bayern Munich in the CL.

After such a dismal start to the campaign, Spurs decided to part ways with Pochettino on November 19th.

Pochettino speaks out

Jose Mourinho has since been appointed as Pochettino’s successor with the coveted manager winning his first two ties in charge of Spurs.

As for Pochettino, he has already been linked with a number of jobs including European heavyweights Barcelona and Bayern Munich.

Now, on Thursday, Pochettino has released his first statement since being ousted as Spurs boss.

The former Southampton man thanked both Joel Lewis and Daniel Levy and gave a special mention to the Tottenham fans:

“I would like to thank Joe Lewis and Daniel Levy for giving me the opportunity to be part of Tottenham Hotspur’s history.

“I would like to thank also everyone I met at Tottenham, all the club staff and the football players during these five and a half years.

“Finally I would like to give a special mention to the fans who make this club so great with their fantastic support.

“I gave the best of me to accomplish the objectives I was asked for in our first meeting. There were equally tough challenges as exciting success.

“Best wishes for the future, I am sure we will cross paths again.” As quoted by the Evening Standard.
