Newcastle post positive Allan Saint-Maximin update ahead of Wolves

Newcastle United have this afternoon taken to social media, to provide a brief update on the fitness of sidelined winger Allan Saint-Maximin.

Newcastle struggling

Steve Bruce’s men are currently in the midst of an altogether-disappointing spell of form.

The Magpies have failed to secure a victory in any of their last 4 outings across all competitions.

After falling to a trio of consecutive Premier League defeats over the last couple of weeks, Newcastle’s last fixture saw them stutter to a 1-1 draw with League One strugglers Rochdale in the 3rd-round of the FA Cup over the weekend.

This actually comes on the back of an excellent run of 3 wins from 4 on the part of the Geordie outfit early in December.

Saint-Maximin latest

Key to the downturn in form being endured by Newcastle was the hectic festive schedule.

Steve Bruce’s squad is a relatively small one when compared to most of their Premier League rivals, with a number of injury setbacks over recent weeks having taken their toll.

Among those to have picked up a fitness issue was Allan Saint-Maximin.

Summer signing Saint-Maximin endured a tough start to life at St. James’ Park, but had begun to show his worth as the campaign wore on with a number of impressive performances.

As such, it came as an untimely blow when it was confirmed that the Frenchman was set to be ruled out for around a month, after picking up a hamstring injury versus Southampton in December.

Saint-Maximin has since gone on to miss 6 fixtures, with Newcastle having managed just a solitary victory during his time out of action.

As outlined above, though, an update on his fitness has today been forthcoming, with the Magpies having confirmed that the pacy wide-man has returned to outdoor activities, as he ‘makes good progress’ towards a full recovery:

As such, Saint-Maximin could yet potentially feature in Newcastle’s next outing, a trip to Molineux to face Wolves on Saturday.
