Official: Barcelona’s Luis Suarez ruled out for 4 months

Spanish giants Barcelona have this afternoon confirmed that, following surgery, striker Luis Suarez is set to be confined to the sidelines until May.

Barca struggling

Ernesto Valverde’s men are currently in the midst of a concerning run of form.

The Blaugrana have managed just 1 win from their last 5 outings across all competitions.

This includes a 2-2 La Liga draw with bottom of the table Espanyol last weekend, and, most recently, a defeat at the hands of Atletico Madrid on Thursday night.

After taking a 2-1 lead in their Spanish Super Cup semi-final meeting with Los Rojiblancos, Barca eventually collapsed, with Atleti now set to take on city rivals Real Madrid in the competition’s showpiece this evening.

Suarez sidelined

One player to have produced at an impressive rate despite Barcelona’s struggles of late, though, is Luis Suarez.

Uruguayan hitman Suarez has directly contributed to 7 goals in his last 3 appearances in the Blaugrana’s colours.

His previous 10 outings at club level, meanwhile, have seen the veteran rack up 7 goals and a hefty 10 assists.

As such, the aforementioned news that Suarez is set to spend the majority of what’s left of the season on the sidelines will no doubt come as a major blow.

As confirmed across Barca’s official website and social media platforms this afternoon, the in-form hitman was forced to go under the knife earlier today, to resolve a long-standing problem with his right knee.

The surgery, though, has seen Suarez ruled out of action for a hefty 4 months:

‘The first team player, Luis Suárez, has been operated on this Sunday by Dr. Ramon Cugat, who used keyhole surgery to resolve an injury to the external meniscus of the right knee by performing a suture. The Uruguayan striker will be out for approximately four months.’
