Official: Matteo Darmian departs Man United for Parma – Details

Manchester United have today confirmed that Matteo Darmian has finally departed the club, securing a return to Serie A with Parma.

United stint

Italian international Darmian had been on the books of United since the summer of 2015, when he made the move to Old Trafford from Torino.

After initially taking to the rigours of the English game like a duck to water, though, the now 29-year-old’s game-time subsequently fell off a cliff over the seasons that followed.

As such, amid an evident dip in confidence, Darmian’s performances, when afforded the opportunity, began to suffer, leading to the former Milan man notching just 10 Premier League starts over the last two seasons combined.

As such, United’s persistence in standing firm in the face of offers for Darmian over the last couple of summers had always come as somewhat baffling.

Parma switch

The latest updates stemming from Italy over the last week, though, suggested that the stopper was finally set for an Old Trafford exit.

And, on the back of mounting speculation over the last 24 hours, Darmian’s United departure has this evening been made official.
