Watford have this afternoon confirmed the news that the club’s scheduled FA Cup replay versus Tranmere Rovers tonight has been called off.
The in-form Hornets welcomed League One outfit Tranmere to Vicarage Road two weekends ago, for an FA Cup 3rd-round tie.
The hosts headed into proceedings brimming with confidence, having looked completely reinvigorated on the back of Nigel Pearson’s appointment.
As such, it came as little surprise when Watford raced out to an early 3-goal advantage.
First-half strikes from Tom Dele-Bashiru, Nathaniel Chalobah and Roberto Pereyra had seen the Hornets head into the interval in firm control.
However, Tranmere were not ready to accept defeat lying down.
Micky Mellon’s outfit went on to stage a remarkable comeback over the course of the 2nd-half, to eventually level things up with 87 minutes on the clock, and earn themselves a deserved replay.

Replay called off
As such, the rematch between Watford and Tranmere was due to take place tonight.
As outlined above, however, this will not be the case.
A statement across Watford’s official website and social media platforms a short time ago confirmed the news that the replay has been postponed.
This comes after heavy rainfall in the Merseyside region resulted in Tranmere’s Prenton Park pitch being deemed unplayable.
As per the announcement:
‘Following a pitch inspection this afternoon, the referee decided the match unfortunately could not go ahead.’
It is added that ‘the date for the rescheduled match will follow as soon as possible.’
