Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has moved to heap praise on summer signing Daniel James, after the Welshman found the net once again during the Red Devils’ meeting with Southampton.
James’ strike not enough
United travelled to St. Mary’s yesterday afternoon, for a meeting with Ralph Hasenhuttl’s Saints.
After following up a disappointing draw at Wolves two weeks ago with a shock defeat at home to Crystal Palace last time out, United no doubt headed into proceedings desperate for a bounce-back result.
When all was said and done, however, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men once again failed to get the job done.
A bright start to the clash on the part of the visitors did see United take the lead with 10 minutes on the clock.
A neat move from midfield into attack led to Daniel James cutting in from the left, before unleashing an unstoppable drive beyond the despairing Angus Gunn.

Just like they did after taking the lead against Wolves a fortnight ago, however, United soon took their foot off the gas, allowing Southampton back into things.
This eventually led to the Saints pulling level just before the hour-mark, as Jannik Vestergaard rose highest at the back post to thump home a superb header.
And, despite Kevin Danso’s needless dismissal 20 minutes from time, in the end, the visitors failed to capitalise with an all-important winner.
‘Humble, works hard and knows he can improve’
Amid yet another disappointing afternoon’s work for Manchester United, though, one positive takeaway was the performance of Daniel James.
Welsh international James has made an instant impact since arriving at Old Trafford from Swansea City over the summer, with his strike at St. Mary’s yesterday having marked his 3rd goal in 4 Premier League outings for the Red Devils.
And, though the 21-year-old continues to look raw at times, one aspect of his game which certainly doesn’t seem to be in any sort of question is James’ commitment to the United cause.
As such, speaking on the back of his top scorer’s latest goal-scoring showing, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has since moved to lavish praise on James.
In fact, the United boss went as far as to label the wide-man ‘an example for everyone’ at Old Trafford:
‘He’s come in and made an impact ever since day one in training. [Versus Southampton] He made a recovery run, won the ball, went forward.’
‘I think he’s an example for everyone. He’s our top scorer. That comes from his personality, his habits. He’s humble, he works hard and he knows he can improve.’
‘He knows he could have scored a few more [against Southampton]. We’ll work with him to get his quality even higher, better and then we’ll have a top, top player.’
