Burnley vs Sunderland

Burnley will play host to League One outfit Sunderland on Wednesday in the second round of the League Cup.

The Clarets did not have to play in the first round while Sunderland saw off Accrington Stanley in the first round of the competition.

Neither side has ever lifted the League Cup but Sunderland have been in the final twice, the last time being in 2014 when they lost 3-1 to Manchester City.

On the Sunderland clash, Sean Dyche had this to say:

“We have a demanding group and we have to factor that in, but we still want to do well in the cup. It’s an important game so we want to deliver.”

Johann Berg Gudmundsson injured

Prior to facing Sunderland, Burnley drew 1-1 with Wolves this past weekend.

Ashley Barnes did give Burnley a 1-0 lead in the 13th minute but an injury-time penalty from Raul Jimenez rescued Nuno Santo’s side a draw.

During that game, Johann Berg Gudmundsson was subbed off.

Now, on Tuesday, Sean Dyche has confirmed that Johann Berg Gudmundsson suffered a calf injury in the Wolves clash and will be having a scan today.

While the injury isn’t thought to be serious, Gudmundsson will not be involved vs Sunderland.
