Sheffield United have this evening provided an explanation for John Lundstram’s absence for the club’s meeting with Manchester City.
City host Blades
Chris Wilder’s men are currently locked in action with the Citizens at the Etihad, in a Premier League clash.
Hosts City headed into proceedings in search of an immediate bounce-back result, on the back of a high-profile collapse at Wolves last time out.
After taking a 2-0 lead at Molineux on Friday night, the champions conceded thrice in the closing 40 minutes, to eventually fall to defeat.
Sheffield United, meanwhile, were also likely left disappointed by the outcome of their last fixture.
A 1-1 stalemate with lowly-Watford brought on an end a run of 3 straight league victories for the Blades.
Nevertheless, though, if Chris Wilder’s outfit do manage to spring a surprise on their illustrious hosts this evening, they will leapfrog both Tottenham and Manchester United into 5th in the Premier League table.
Lundstram misses out
Sheffield United’s hopes of doing so, though, were dealt a blow ahead of kick-off.
As is customary, the starting line-ups of both sides were made official an hour prior to proceedings getting underway in Manchester this evening.
Hosts City set up as follows:
📋 For the final time of the decade…your City line-up!
XI | Bravo, Walker, Garcia, Fernandinho (C), Zinchenko, Rodrigo, Bernardo, De Bruyne, Sterling, Mahrez, Aguero.
SUBS | Carson, Gundogan, G Jesus, Mendy, Cancelo, Otamendi, Foden.

The XI opted for by Chris Wilder, meanwhile, is showcased further below, with one glaring omission.
The individual to have missed out from not only the Blades’ starting line-up, but their matchday squad altogether, was John Lundstram.
Fantasy Football favourite Lundstram has enjoyed a stellar campaign to date, but, as confirmed across Sheffield United’s social media platforms, a failed late fitness test has seen the versatile midfielder forced to sit out this evening’s exchanges in Manchester:
Blades manager Chris Wilder has made three changes from the side which drew with Watford on Boxing Day.
Mo Besic replaces John Lundstram, who failed a late fitness test. Robinson & Mousset come in for Didzy and Oli McBurnie.#MCISHU 🔴
