Sporting assistant speaks out over Bruno Fernandes’ future amid Man United links

Emanuel Ferro, assistant manager of Sporting CP, has this afternoon provided an update on the future of Manchester United-linked Bruno Fernandes.

United eyeing reinforcements

Speculation surrounding the future of attacking midfielder Fernandes has been rampant this month.

On the back of widespread links to the Premier League last summer, the 25-year-old has again been hotly-tipped to make his way to England since the opening of the winter transfer window.

This comes amid another stellar campaign to this point, during which Fernandes has directly contributed to 28 goals in just 26 appearances.

Manchester United, meanwhile, have been the club pushing hardest for the Sporting star’s signature.

It has long been common knowledge that Red Devils boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is on the lookout for attack-minded midfield reinforcements, amid Jesse Lingard’s struggles.

But, with first-choice targets James Maddison and Christian Eriksen looking unattainable, Solskjaer and co. have switched their attentions firmly back to Fernandes.

Thus far, however, despite reports of intense negotiations, an agreement with Sporting is yet to be found.

In fact, speculation has begun to mount over the last 48 hours that Manchester United are unwilling to stump up the kind of fee being demanded by those in charge of the Lisbon-based giants.

‘We don’t feel it’

As such, ahead of Sporting’s next fixture, a League Cup meeting with Braga tomorrow night, assistant manager Emanuel Ferro was this afternoon drawn on Fernandes’ future during a pre-match press conference.

Ferro, though, assured that the club’s prized asset will be part of Silas’ squad to take on Braga:

‘He trained and will be in the squad.’

Sporting’s assistant boss then went on to add that the general feeling within the club is that Fernandes is not thinking about moving on this month:

‘There is a lot of talk about him leaving. I believe that outside people feel this more than us. We don’t feel it. We don’t feel Bruno’s thinking about leaving. He is competitive and involved.’
