Chelsea vs Newcastle

Newcastle face a trip to Chelsea on Saturday afternoon.

Given Newcastle are down in 16th place in the Premier League as we begin the weekend, a trip to Stamford Bridge is probably not what they need.

However, the Magpies can take some solace in the fact their only two league wins this campaign have come against ‘big six’ sides.

Newcastle’s last outing saw them beat Manchester United and their only previous league win before that this season came against Tottenham.

As for Chelsea, they are currently 5th in the English top-flight, just two points off 2nd place Manchester City.

Newcastle injury update

Prior to facing Chelsea, Steve Bruce held his pre-match press conference on Friday morning.

During the press conference, Bruce gave an update on Newcastle’s injury situation.

Bruce would confirm that Newcastle have just Matt Ritchie and Florian Lejeune injured and those two players ‘are there or thereabouts’:

“At the minute we only have Matt Ritchie and big Flo (Lejeune) injured. We’re nearing towards a full squad. (Those two) are there or thereabouts.”

Bruce would also provide an update on Andy Carroll.
