Tammy Abraham’s contract talks with Chelsea have reportedly stalled

Abraham impressing with Chelsea

Chelsea have struggled to find a consistent number nine over the last few seasons.

The club has tasked top forwards such as Gonzalo Higuain, Alvaro Morata and Olivier Giroud with said role.

However, none were nearly as effective as Chelsea’s current first-choice striker, Tammy Abraham.

Despite only making a smattering of first-team appearances for Chelsea before this season, Frank Lampard showed a lot of faith in Abraham and made him the Blues’ main centre-forward.

Lampard’s belief in the Chelsea youth product has certainly been rewarded so far this term.

In 27 outings across all competitions this season for Chelsea, Abraham has found the back of the net on 14 occasions whilst also providing five assists.

Abraham’s latest strike came on Sunday and earned Chelsea a crucial 2-1 win away to Arsenal.

Abraham’s scintillating form has also seen him recalled to Gareth Southgate’s England squad this campaign.

Abraham’s contract talks

However, while things are progressing well for the 22-year-old on the pitch, it seems things are a bit slower off the pitch.

Abraham is currently contracted to Chelsea until 2022.

And while it was reported earlier this season that Chelsea had begun contract talks with Tammy, it appears the discussions have halted somewhat.

Goal have reported on Monday the 30th of December that talks have stalled due to Abraham’s representatives asking for a similar wage to that of Callum Hudson-Odoi, who Goal cite as earning £180,000-per-week:

Tammy Abraham’s contract talks with Chelsea have stalled as his representatives have asked for parity with the £180,000-a-week that team-mate Callum Hudson-Odoi currently earns.
