Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers has this afternoon provided an update on Jamie Vardy’s fitness, ahead of his side’s League Cup meeting with Aston Villa.
Leicester vs Aston Villa
The Foxes are set to welcome Dean Smith’s men to the King Power tomorrow night.
After Manchester United and Man City face off in the first of the Carabao Cup’s semi-final first-legs tonight, Leicester and Villa will follow suit in 24 hours’ time.
The former will no doubt head into proceedings brimming with confidence, on the back of a fine spell of form of late.
After being brought back down to earth in consecutive defeats to Manchester City and Liverpool over the festive period, Leicester have since bounced back with 3 straight wins across all competitions.
The latest of these saw Brendan Rodgers’ men secure their spot in the 4th-round of the FA Cup on Saturday, with a 2-0 victory over Wigan.
Leicester’s win streak, meanwhile, has actually come with the Foxes having been unable to call on star hitman Jamie Vardy.
Veteran Vardy has been sidelined of late with a calf problem, forcing him out of his side’s last 3 outings.
As such, speaking in his pre-Villa press conference this evening, Brendan Rodgers was inevitably asked for an update on the fitness of the Premier League’s top scorer.
And, in a boost to Leicester’s prospects tomorrow night, the Foxes boss went on to confirm that Vardy is ‘absolutely fine’:
‘Jamie [Vardy] is fine. He unfortunately missed the game at the weekend, but he trained on Sunday and since that. So he’s absolutely fine.’
